Pakistan nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan passed away in Islamabad on Sunday morning after prolonged illness.

He was 85 and was undergoing treatment in a local hospital where he was admitted last month with lung problems. His health deteriorated early morning and he breathe his last.

Dr Khan, who is also considered as Mohsin-i-Pakistan (saviour of Pakistan), would carry to his grave the apathy of Pakistan government headed by Imran Khan. He was deeply frustrated with the government in his “last days” that he expressed to a local English daily.

Khan, in the mid of September, charged that neither Prime Minister Imran Khan nor any of his cabinet members inquired after his health. “I am quite disappointed that neither the prime minister nor any of his cabinet members has inquired about my health,” Dr Khan told Pakistan’s leading English Daily Dawn.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan took caution while dealing with the situation after the scientist’s death. “Deeply saddened by the passing of Dr A Q Khan. He was loved by our nation because of his critical contribution in making us a nuclear weapon state. This has provided us security against an aggressive much larger nuclear neighbour. For the people of Pakistan, he was a national icon,” Khan tweeted.

Even he directed cabinet ministers to attend the funeral. The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the services chiefs were also asked to remain present. Dr Khan was given a state funeral at Faisal Mosque before being laid to rest at the H-8 graveyard.

Despite his attempts, Imran Khan could not pacify a section of people who vent their fury on the social media platform. Referring to a dancer-singer named Umar Shareef, one citizen tweeted that the Pakistani government provided him foreign treatment while did not bother to send nuclear scientist Dr Khan abroad for better medical care.

“Dear PM @ImranKhanPTI I humbly suggest you to please inquire the health of people when they are alive rather giving them condolences when even they can’t receive it. I hope you will honor #DrAbdulQadeerKhan on his final journey,” another handler said.

Mocking over the condolence offered by Imran Khan, one citizen quipped: “Really? You will thank Imran khan because he took time out for condolence?”
