Chhattisgarh-based Godawari Power and Ispat Limited (GPIL) would enhance the capacity of its Dongri iron ore mines to 2.35 million tonne per annum (MTPA).
The company, a flagship arm of Hira Group of Industries having a dominant presence in the long product segment of the Steel industry mainly into mild steel wire, would also set up a beneficiation plant.
“We wish to inform that the Government of India, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Impact Assessment Division has accorded environment clearance vide its letter dated 23.06.2021for enhancement of Iron Ore Production Capacity from 1.405 MTPA to 2.35MTPA in Ari Dongri Iron Ore Mines situated at Village Kachche, District Bastar, Kanker, Chhattisgarh,” the GPIL informed in a regulatory filing.
The company had also received green panel nod for setting up of a Beneficiation Plant of 0.6 MTPA capacity, it added.
The GPIL expected the production of the enhanced iron ore mining capacity would be started in the next 2-3 months. Post commencement of commercial operation of enhanced mining capacity and ramping up of the production, the 100 per cent iron ore requirement of the Company, would be met from captive mines, which lead to substantial cost saving.
As of now, about 20 per cent of the demand of raw material required is met from outside purchases, cost of which is very high and as compared to market prices.
