Government school teacher suspended for arson in Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh government has suspended a school teacher for his alleged involvement in the arson incident that took place in Balodabazar district on June 10.

Mohan Banjare, was serving as a Lecturer (LB) at Government Higher Secondary School in Goda of Palari development block, was identified as chief architect and conspirator to provoke the gathering that turned violent. The situation went out of control as a mob fumed a portion of the District Collectorate and gutted many vehicles.

A case (No. 381/2024) has been registered against him at the City Kotwali Balodabazar Police Station under several sections of IPC, including 147, 148, 149, 294, 506, 186, 353, 332, 307, 435, 120B, and 427, as well as Sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984. Banjare was arrested on July 15 and has since been placed on judicial remand.

The education department on Thursday suspended Banjare from the service. The suspension was enacted under sub-rule (2)(a) of Rule 9 of the Chhattisgarh Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1966. During the suspension period, he will be eligible for only a subsistence allowance as per the rules.

The Balodabazar police have so far arrested 170 people in connection with the incident. Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal said of them, only Banjare was the government employee among those arrested so far.
