A high-level team of Gujarat State Power Corporation Limited (GSPCL) visited the South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) to discuss the coal supply even as the state allegedly reels under severe shortage of dry fuel.
Chairman of Coal India Limited (CIL) Pramod Agrawal himself landed in Bilaspur, where the headquarters of SECL—an arm of CIL—is located to coordinate the meeting. The Gujarat team is led by GSPCL Chairman Mamta Verma, an Indian Administrative Officer (IAS) of 1996 cadre. The CIL Chairman, an IAS officer from Madhya Pradesh cadre, belongs to the 1991 batch.
The state-run power company of Gujarat is getting coal from the SECL. The state is presently plunged into severe coal shortage even as it planned to join Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra to import 10.5 million tonnes (MT) of dry fuel in coming months.
Agrawal chaired the meeting attended by GSPCL and SECL officials to coordinate the supply. SECL spokesperson said the company officials had assured that it would ensure that Gujarat get uninterrupted supply of coal.
Earlier, the CIL Chairman held a meeting with the SECL officials to review the progress of performance. Chairman-cum-Managing Director of SECL Dr Prem Sagar Mishra along with top officials of the company were present in the meeting.
The SECL has performed well during the month. The company has been producing and dispatching 4.5 MT of coal besides sending 40 rakes every day. It has a coal stock of 16 MT.
Agrawal asked the SECL officials to work with proper planning and expedite the decisions at the earliest. He also stressed for enhancing coal production in the mega mines that include Gevra, Kusmunda and Dipka.
