Bhopal, September 6

The Hawk Force in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday nabbed a hardcore woman Maoist in Balaghat who was carrying Rs 14 lakh reward.

The catch is seen as a major breakthrough in the on-going operation against the Left-wing Extremists in Madhya Pradesh as Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has vowed to eradicate the Maoists menace from the state.

The commandos of elite Hawk Force on Thursday received a tip-off about the presence of Maoists of the KB Division in Parasatola Chichrangpur forest area under Baihar area Balaghat police station. Based on the information, a search operation was launched in the area by the Hawk Force Special Operation Group. During the search, the police party found two suspects.

A hardcore female Maoist of KB division was surrounded and apprehended and another member escaped from the spot. A pistol with magazine and other items were recovered from this female Maoist, who was identified as Sajanti. Wife of Ganesh, the 32-year-old Sajanti was carrying Rs 14 lakh reward on her head. She joined the Maoist organization in 2011 and has been working as an active member of Khatia Mocha Dalam under KB division in MMC zone since 2016.

The rebels ambushed the police party while returning with the arrested Maoist. The rebels fired about 30-40 rounds on the police party with the intention of rescuing their fellow members. The Hawk Force soldiers retaliated and gave a befitting response. The rebels escaped by taking advantage of the darkness. A large-scale intensive search operation is being conducted in this area by CRPF CoBRA and Hawk Force.

This is the fourth major success of security forces in Madhya Pradesh after Dr Mohan Yadav took over as the Chief Minister of the state in December 2023. On December 14, hardcore Maoist Madakam Hidma alias Chaitu (about 32-33 years) resident of Mirtur in Bijapur district of Chhattigarh was killed. He was carrying a reward of Rs 14 lakh.

The 24 policemen involved in the operation were given out-of-turn promotions. Besides, out-of-turn promotion has also been given to 25 policemen who eliminated two hard core Maoists on April 1, 2024. The Chief Minister himself went to Balaghat to rank the policemen who received out-of-turn promotions. On July 8, 2024, Hawk Force also succeeded in eliminating Sohan alias Ukas alias Aaytu who was carrying a reward of Rs 14 lakh.

In the last two years, the MP Police has achieved unprecedented success in the anti-Maoist campaign. The total number of Maoists killed since 2022 is more than the total number of Naxalites killed in the last 20 years. For the first time, the security forces killed three DVCM-level Maoists and recovered three AK-47 rifles. Senior Maoist leader Ashok Reddy alias Baldev, who was carrying a reward of Rs 82 lakh, was arrested.
