The Grand Alliance sponsored Human Chain that was formed here in Bihar to express solidarity with the agitating farmers in Delhi could not evoke a grand response on Saturday.
Though sponsors claimed success but admitted to restrictions that the Corona guidelines and the bad weather played spoilsport and did not get desired response.
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, the Congress legislature party leader Ajit Kumar Sharma and CPI(ML) leader Deepankar Bhattacharya led the human chain formation by joining it at Budha Memorial Park near Patna Junction. The Congress organised a human chain near its state headquarters-Sadaquat Ashram.
State wide formation lasted 30 minutes. It drew respectable response in Samastipur and Vaishali districts.
Farmers did not join the Human Chain as they were neck deep in harvesting of crops and their disposal at the nearest primary agriculture co-operative societies. Safe social distancing was maintained which led to disconnect between the participants.
Leaders of CPI, CPM and CPI(ML) were present in the rural areas. The organisers had not taken permission from the authorities, district magistrate of Patna, Chandrashekhar Singh said,
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who was returning from Gandhi Ghat after offering prayers to Mahatma Gandhi, commented: “Thee Grand Alliance leaders have taken a leaf out of my book. This is good.” He recalled he had organised human chains in 2016 in support of prohibition, in 2019 against child marriages and last year on January 19 against the dowry system. These human chains created world records, he claimed.
Health Minister Mangal Pandey claimed the opposition sponsored Human Chain was a flop as no Human was present in the formation.
In neighbouring Jharkhand, Congress and ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha have planned tractor rallies in the state in support of the farmers, the Jharkhand Finance Minister and Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Chief, Rameshwar Oraon said.
