Heat stroke claims over dozen lives in Bihar

Patna, June 17

About a dozen people, including two jawans of the special armed police(SAP) died of heat stroke at different places in Bihar in the last 24 hours as the mercury rose to 45 degrees.

According to official sources, three rail passengers died in running trains at Jamui, Ara and Itarhi stations.

The SAP jawans-Gauri Prasad and Jamuna Prasad Yadav,who were on security duties at two different gates of the Sasaram Civil courts collapsed at the sentry point and were declared dead when brought to the civil hospital.

A middle aged woman who was travelling in the Balia-Sealdah train died to heat stroke at Jamui railway station.Sri Ram Sheth,another passenger travelling in a local train died at Itarhi station in Rohtas district.

A supervisor of the Patna MUnicipal Corporation,Santosh Kumar who was supervising cleanliness drive at the busy Dak Bungalow Circle in the state capital here collapsed in the noon hours today.He was rushed to the Medanta hospital,where doctors dceclared him dead.

Two people were found dead on the streets of Ara on Friday noon.Another person died of heat stroke at Kargahar in Rohtas district.

The Disaster management department has issued an advisory asking people in Patna, Aurangabad, Gaya, Jamui, Nawada and Bhojpur districts not to ventrue out of their homes till late evening as the mercury would rise further and heatwave would continue.
