After a gap of over five months, Hemant Soren will be the Chief Minister of Jharkhand again.
Champai Soren, who had assumed office on January 31, submitted his resignation to the Governor, C P Radhakrishnan. Jharkhand assembly elections are scheduled for November.
Hemant who had resigned on January 31 following a court order forwarding him to judicial custody in connection with an alleged land scam had appointed his colleague Champai Soren as his successor.
Earlier in the day, both Hemant and Champai called on the Governor. While Champai resigned, Hemant staked claim to form the new government with support of JMM, Congress and RJD MLAs.
The Mahagathbandhan partners elected Hemant as their leader. Mrs Kalpana Soren, the newly elected JMM MLA from Gandey was also present.
