Jamshedpur, June 1

14-year-old Anish Kumar Sinha from Kasidih, Jamshedpur, has bagged the silver medal at the Sub-Junior Boys and Girls Boxing Championship, 2022, hosted by the Boxing Federation of India during May 20-26, 2022 at Bellary in Karnataka.

Anish was trained at the Kasidih Community Centre run by the Urban Services department of Tata Steel Foundation.

The young man began his journey at boxing in 2018, soon after his parents passed away. He says: “It was difficult in the beginning, especially being bullied and told by everyone that I will not be able to do anything in life.” However, Anish turned the wheel for himself and went on to prove that he was meant for bigger feats in life. This achievement has emerged as evidence of his grit and dedication. His coach Bablu Kumar Yadav thanked Anish’s Principal Satinder Singh at the Thakur Pyare Singh High School, Kasidih, for the enormous support received from the school, especially with documentation and flexible timings that enabled Anish to report to the Centre on time.

Anish intended to serve the Indian Army once he came of age, and spoke of his journey and aspirations. He said: “I have made it to the National Camp this year and will be playing under-14 after my training. I want to serve my country, my motherland and remain dauntless.” Anish currently is a student of grade 9 and he said that his family has been extremely supportive of his efforts although initially he had to convince his family to allow him to play. Anish signed off saying: “I channeled all my anger through boxing, all my feelings of hurt, and that made all the difference.”

Anish was felicitated at the Urban Services office here today by Mr Sourav Roy, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Steel Foundation and Mr Jiren Topno, Head Tribal Culture and Urban Services, Tata Steel and assured further support in his sporting career ahead.

The Urban Services department of the Foundation trains around 750 children in various sporting fields annually.
