DPIIT-IPR Chair at HNLU in collaboration with HNLU’s Centre for Innovation and IP Laws organized a virtual International Conference on “Music and IP: Art, Innovation & Business” on the occasion of World IP Day – April 26.

The inaugural ceremony had Prof. Sunanda Bharti, Professor of Law from Delhi University as the Chief
Guest, and Ms. Annie Davtian, IP & Business Attorney from Armenia as the Guest of Honor. The valedictory ceremony had Mr. Pravin Anand, Managing Partner of premier IP firm Anand and Anand as the Chief Guest, Prof. Enrico Bonadio from City St. George’s University of London as the Keynote Speaker and Adv. Heena Baig, Legal Operations Lead from Samsarah Instatech as the Guest of Honor.

Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. V.C. Vivekanandan delivered the opening remarks through a digital message in both inaugural and valedictory ceremonies while Registrar Dr. Deepak Kumar Srivastava delivered the welcome address in the inaugural, and Dean of Postgraduate Studies Prof. Yogendra Srivastava delivered the welcome address in the valedictory.

Dr Ankit Singh, DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor and Convener of the Conference presented the Report and presented the vote of thanks in the inaugural, and Ms. Garima Panwar, Assistant Professor, delivered the vote of thanks in the valedictory.

The conference had participation from India and abroad. Across the paper presentation sessions, a total of 28 high-quality paper presentations were witnessed by scholars, practitioners, researchers, and students from across the globe. These presentations explored a variety of cutting-edge topics including copyright licensing in the streaming era, AI-generated music and authorship dilemmas, parallel importation of musical works, the economics of royalty models, and blockchain’s impact on the music industry.

The sessions were chaired by distinguished experts in the field of intellectual property law — both from academia and industry, and from India as well as abroad — whose thoughtful inputs and feedback enriched the academic discourse and ensured productive dialogue among presenters and attendees.

The conference was not merely an academic event — it was a celebration of the spirit of music, the creativity of human expression, and the silent but powerful architecture of intellectual property that protects and propels it.
