IAS officer gets interim bail from Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of India has granted one-month interim bail to Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Pooja Singhal on the health grounds.

The 2000-batch IAS officer and former Jharkhand’s mining secretary was arrested by ED In May last year in connection with money laundering case. She has been charged with committing serious financial irregularities in the execution of MNREGA project in Khunti during her tenure as deputy commissioner (DC).

Besides Pooja, CA Suman Singh had also been arrested in the case. Sources said Suman Singh used to sit in the official chamber of Pooja Singhal at the mining department. During the May 6 raid in Ranchi, the ED had seized Rs 19.31 crore cash from the office and residence of Suman Singh.

Sources said Singhal had applied for interim bail citing the health condition of her daughter. The apex court granted bail allowing her to walk free after 7 months and 23 days in jail.

According to the bail condition, Singhal would have to stay in New Delhi and cannot leave the National Capital Region (NCR).
