Chhattisgarh government has removed the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Surajpur district panchayat, Rahul Dev following serious charges of shady deals in the department.

Dev is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of 2016 batch. He has been shifted to Janjgir Champa district as Additional Collector.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is currently on a campaign “Bhent Mulaqat” to take the governance at the doorstep of the common man. He is making surprise visits in the village and interacting with the people to note down the ground reality.

During his visit to Surajpur today, the villagers informed him about the serious corruption going on in the panchayat office. They told the Chief Minister that without a cut of 10 per cent, no work could be expected in the department—the nodal agency for executing all major development works in the rural areas.

Baghel ordered to shunt the CEO and the order was immediately issued by the department of general administration. However, the IAS officer had been lucky that he was only shunted as three days ago, another All India Service officer was suspended.

Manish Kashyap, an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer of 2015 was suspended after villagers lodged complaints about the alleged irregularities in the Gauthan project. Kashyap was posted as Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) in Pratappur where the Chief Minister visited on May 6.

The IAS lobby however succeeded in “saving” the cadre member despite serious corruption charges while looking the other way when the Chief Minister ordered suspension of IFS officer.
