The Indian Institute of Management Raipur, conducted an industrial visit for its PGP batch of 2024-2026 to Sarda Energy and Mineral Ltd (SEML), the flagship firm of Chhattisgarh-based Sarda Group.
As a part of the institute’s experiential learning initiative, the visit was a vital step in enabling the students towards understanding real-world industrial settings. SEML specializes in steel and ferro alloys production, with a fully integrated plant in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Upon arrival at SEML, the students were introduced to the company’s operations through a presentation detailing its historical evolution, key business units, and sustainability initiatives.
As MBA students, they were presented with deeper insights into the company’s long-term vision and strategy, the visit proved to be an opportunity for fostering industrial operations knowledge among the students while bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical applicability. It offered a multifaceted learning experience, allowing students to witness the strategic, operational, and technological components of a large-scale manufacturing setting.
The objective of the visit was to understand SEML’s technological advancements, management practices, and sustainability efforts. The students received exposure to key aspects of, operational efficiency in sponge iron production and power generation, the role of cross-functional leadership in overseeing large-scale industrial operations, sustainability measures and how they align with the company’s long-term strategic goals, financial and risk management practices in mitigating industry-specific challenges, such as fluctuating commodity prices and environmental regulations.
In conclusion, the visit also fostered a deeper appreciation by the students for the hard work and dedication of the employees working in such challenging environments, supporting the demands of modern industries. It also underscored how a company can maintain stability through innovation and resilience; giving students a practical glimpse into how theoretical concepts and leadership are applied in a dynamic industrial environment.
