In the Eknath Shinde cabinet, about 40 per cent of ministers are those who have never been to college.

Consequent to the reconstitution of the Maharashtra state cabinet on August 9, 2022, poll rights bodies Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Maharashtra Election Watch have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 20 Ministers including Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister from Maharashtra State Assembly 2019. The Eknath Shinde government added 18 ministers to the state Cabinet on Tuesday.

“Eight (40 per cent) ministers have declared their educational qualification to be between 10th and 12th standard,” the ADR report said.  While 11 (55 per cent) ministers have declared having an educational qualification of graduate or above and one minister is Diploma Holder.

The report added that 15 or 75 per cent of the ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves with 13 (65 per cent) asserting serious criminal cases against themselves.

With no women in the Shinde government, a total of 4 (20 per cent) ministers have declared their age to be between 41-50 years while 16 (80 per cent) ministers have declared their age to be between 51- 70 years.

The minister with the highest declared total assets is Mangal Prabhat Lodha from Malabar Hill constituency with assets worth Rs 441.65 crore. He is also the BJP’s Mumbai unit President. Interestingly, the lowest assets minister is also a crorepati. The ADR report examined that the minister with the lowest declared total assets is Bhumare Sandipanrao Asaram from Paithan constituency with assets worth Rs 2.92 crore.
