Noney, July 2
The rough weather condition has severely affected the search and rescue operations to recover the remaining missing persons under the landslide debris at the railway construction site in Noney district of Manipur.
Of the total 32 mortal remains recovered until Saturday evening, 11 are civilians and 21 are from the Territorial Army, according to officials. Twenty eight people-seven from Army and 21 civilians, remain untraced following the massive landslide that hit the Tupul yard railway construction camp on the night of June 29.
Eighteen people have been rescued so far even as the operation continued for the third day on Saturday but the downpour in several parts of the state, including the landslide-affected area, has affected the rescue and recovery operations.
Over 470 personnel, including those of the NDRF, SDRF, state police, the Assam Rifles and local volunteers, have been deployed in the search operation.
A flesh landslide that too in the same Tupul Yard Railway construction camp on Saturday morning created panic and forced the authorities to suspend the operations. However, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.
“The situation in the landslide-affected area of Tupul is still serious due to rainfall in the morning, we are expecting the bad weather to persist,” Chief Minister N Biren Singh tweeted.
