New Delhi, April 10
India and China had agreed on the need to resolve the outstanding issues in an expeditious manner in accordance with the existing agreements and protocols.
The stress for a speedy resolution of the issues that include border standoff was given at the 11th round of India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting held at Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on Friday. The meeting lasted over 13 hours.
The two sides had a detailed exchange of views for the resolution of the remaining issues related to disengagement along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh. In this context it was highlighted also that completion of disengagement in other areas would pave the way for two sides to consider de-escalation of forces and ensure full restoration of peace and tranquility and enable progress in bilateral relations.
Both also agreed that it was important to take guidance from the consensus of their leaders, continue their communication and dialogue and work towards a mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues at the earliest. They also agreed to jointly maintain stability on the ground, avoid any new incidents and jointly maintain peace in the border areas.
The tension between both the countries started in May 2020 at the Galwan valley with the fatal clash between the troopers in Galwan on Ladakh borders. After the 10th round of military dialogue to de-escalate tension at the LAC held in February, China made an announcement that New Delhi and Beijing had agreed to disengage at Pangong Lake.
So far, the disengagement process at both banks of Pangong Lake has taken place.
