After putting up an outstanding performance with the sticks throughout the tournament, India men’s hockey team today succumbed before Australia in the final match at Commonwealth Games 2022.

Australia defeated India 7-0 in the final of men’s hockey at Commonwealth Games 2022. The six-time CWG champions, Australia started the match on a dominating note and kept India at the backfoot even as its strong defence failed to put a brave block. One-by-one, they put seven goals into the net even as the Indian defence looked helpless.

Winning the game quite comfortably, Australia proved its supremacy and retained the title for the 7th time.  India had entered the final after beating South Africa 3-2, while Australia made it for the final clash by defeating England by 3-2.

Meanwhile, P V Sindhu and Lakshya Sen on Monday performed on expected line and grabbed gold medals as India swept the singles badminton competition at the Commonwealth Games for the first time.

India’s sporting icon Sindhu added a CWG gold to her already bulging collection with a convincing straight game win over Canada’s Michelle Li. She outplayed her 13th ranked opponent 21-15, 21-13 in front of a packed crowd at the NEC arena.

Later in the day, 10th-ranked Sen came from behind to end Ng Tze Yong’s giant-killing run in the competition. The 20-year-old defeated the world number 42 from Malaysia 19-21, 21-9, 21-16.

India’s Sharath Kamal won the gold and G Sathiyan bagged the bronze in the table tennis.
