The Indian Army on Monday killed three terrorists in an encounter that took place in the upper reaches of the Harwan-Mulnar area in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

The killed militants include a Pakistani terrorist and the mastermind behind the recent Pahalgam terror attack. He has been identified as Suleman Shah — a terrorist of Lashkar-e-Taiba. The operation, conducted under code name Operation Mahadev, marks a major counter-terror achievement in Jammu and Kashmir.

The encounter unfolded in the dense forests of Harwan near Dachigam on Monday, where security forces engaged in a fierce gunfight with heavily armed militants. Officials confirmed that at least three terrorists were gunned down in the operation. The two other terrorists have been identified as Jibran and Ali.

Jibran, a key figure in cross-border terror activities, was taken down during a high-intensity encounter following weeks of meticulous and coordinated intelligence efforts, sources said.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Army confirmed, “Three terrorists have been neutralised so far in the Harwan-Mulnar area. The operation is in progress.”

According to Army officials, the operation was launched following credible intelligence inputs regarding suspicious movement in the forested region. A tight cordon was established in the area early Monday morning.

“While conducting searches, security forces came under heavy fire, prompting a swift and coordinated response,” an official said. “A fierce gunfight ensued, during which three terrorists were killed.”
