The Indian Navy continues its rescue and relief operations in the landslide-affected areas of Wayanad district, despite inclement weather and difficult terrain. Additional personnel, stores, resources, and essential supplies have been mobilized from INS Zamorin to support the relief efforts and aid the local community impacted by the disaster.

Currently, 78 Naval personnel are involved in the ongoing rescue operations. The teams have been deployed in multiple locations, including Chooralmala and Mundakkai, and are working hand in hand with disaster relief forces and local administration. One of the teams is stationed at the river base to maintain a continuous supply of materials, food, and provisions to the affected people, while other teams are engaged in searching for survivors, clearing debris, and recovering bodies. A medical post has been established at Chooralmala to provide medical assistance to the injured.

A team comprising three officers and 30 sailors has augmented the efforts of the Indian Army in assembling and constructing the crucial Bailey Bridge over the river, connecting the regions of Chooralmala and Mundakkai, which were isolated by the landslides on August 1, 2024. The bridge serves as the backbone of logistical support, enabling the movement of heavy machinery and ambulances.

On August 2, 2024, an Indian Navy Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) from INS Garuda, operating from Calicut, conducted an aerial reconnaissance of the affected areas to locate survivors and bodies. The helicopter airlifted 12 state police personnel along with rescue equipment to the disaster area, which was inaccessible by road. The sortie was conducted over hilly terrain with low visibility and challenging weather conditions.

The Indian Navy is working closely with the local administration to ensure the quick evacuation of stranded people and the provision of basic amenities and medical aid.
