India’s Omicron tally rises to 961

With 180 fresh cases, India recorded the highest single day rise of Omicron infections; taking total tally of variant of concern in the country to 961 on Thursday.

According to the Union Health Ministry statement, 961 cases have been detected across 22 states and union territories while 320 people have recovered or migrated. Delhi recorded the maximum number of 263 cases followed by Maharashtra at 252, Gujarat 97, Rajasthan 69, Kerala 65 and Telangana 62.

The daily rise in COVID-19 cases crossed the 13,000 mark after around 49 days, taking the total tally to 3,48,22,040, while the active cases increased to 82,402, the statement said. In all, 13154 fresh cases were reported on Thursday.

The death toll has climbed to 4,80,860 with 268 fresh fatalities.

With the administration of 63,91,282 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 143.83 crore (1,43,83,22,742) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. This has been achieved through 1,53,47,226 sessions.
