Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel took the initiative to remember the contribution of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in fighting famine in a village by unveiling her statue.

About four decades ago, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had come to Jarva village now under the Balodabazar district after severe drought hit the area. She visited the village and interacted with the people to have firsthand information about the situation.

The Prime Minister, besides others, launched the Old Jarve Miner project in the area that came as a big respite for the villagers in battling deprivation.

Baghel today unveiled the statue of Indira Gandhi and recalled the great contribution of the Iron Lady and the first woman Prime Minister in fighting the famine in a Chhattisgarh village.
