Noted hepatologist and senior clinical research scientist Dr Prakash Tahiliani said that modern integrative medicines developed in India would soon be used globally as life- saving drugs.
Dr Tahiliani, who hails from Surat in Gujarat, explained in simple terms his expertise in liver diseases, covering conditions such as fatty liver, liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, viral and alcoholic hepatitis, along with treatments for malaria and dengue, as well as liver transplantation at a lecture held at “BNB Govt. HS School” in Tilda- Neora on Thursday.
An MBBS and advanced courses and training in Liver Diseases from ILBS (Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences), New Delhi, Dr Tahiliani has research-based qualifications from the University of London. With 45 years of experience in research and patient care, he has successfully treated approximately 55,000 severe malaria patients, 3,000 dengue patients, and over 2,000 extremely critical liver disease patients, including around 300 who were in terminal stages.
Notably, over the past 45 years, Dr Tahiliani has worked as a freelance research scientist in Navsari, Gujarat, and has presented his research on Modern Integrative and Immuno-Modulatory medicines at 26 international conferences as an invited speaker. His research papers have been published in 12 renowned international medical journals. Since 2001, 09 Modern Integrative Medicines he developed have been available in the Indian market with license from Gujarat’s FDCA, and are being exported to Germany for nearly 12 years. An additional 16 Modern Integrative Medicines are currently in the development process.
Dr Tahiliani remarked on the challenges facing the medical world, including antibiotic-resistant infectious diseases, the resurgence of diseases like TB, the increase in viral infections, and the growing list of serious diseases like liver, kidney, and gastrointestinal conditions, which lack effective treatments. He noted that multinational pharmaceutical companies have declined to develop new antibiotics. In such circumstances, the medical world is evolving, with European scientists working on Translational Medicines, and India and China rapidly advancing Modern Integrative Medicines with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO).
These medicines, with a history in India of over a century, differ from Ayurvedic Medicines and are developed using modern analytical methods complying with WHO’s guidelines and “Reverse Pharmacology” standards. Indian scientists and doctors with extensive allopathic qualification have played significant roles in advancing Modern Integrative Medicines, such as Sir Rustam Jal Vakil (DM Cardiologist, London), Dr U K Sheth (KEM Hospital, Mumbai), and Dr Ashok DB Vaidya (KEM Hospital, Mumbai), who is globally recognized as the Father of Reverse Pharmacology. These dedicated figures have worked to focus global medical attention on the benefits of Modern Integrative Medicines.
