IPS officer died of cardiac arrest at Chief Minister’s rally

Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre Saju Ram Rana died of a massive cardiac arrest while discharging duty at the Abhar rally of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu organised at Dharamsala on Tuesday.

He was shifted immediately to Zonal Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Chief Minister CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu’s Jan abhar rally was organised to express gratitude to the people of Himachal Pradesh for voting Congress to power in the state.

The 59-year-old officer, who was posted as Commandant of 4RTH IRB Battalion at Junglebari, was on duty at the Zorawar Stadium for security arrangements. While on duty, his health suddenly deteriorated in the afternoon. He complained of pain in his chest and suddenly became unconscious.

He was immediately taken to Tanda Medical College in an ambulance, but the doctors declared him dead on admission. The Chief Minister visited the hospital and expressed his tributes to the departed officer. Sukhu also visited the family members and consoled them.

Saju Ram was a promoted IPS officer and was appointed in January 2020. The cadre year was yet to be allotted.

The IPS officer was originally a resident of Dhavali village located in Dharampur of Mandi district. Saju Ram was posted as Superintendent of Police in many districts. He had served in Bilaspur also. During the COVID period, he was posted as SP in Kinnaur.
