Raipur, September 14

A day after the two-day Collector-Superintendent of Police conference, the police chief of Mungeli district was removed on Saturday.

In an order issued by the state’s home department, 2010-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Girijashankar Jaiswal was removed as the Mungeli Superintendent of Police.  The 2013-batch IPS officer, Bhojraj Patel will succeed him as the police chief of Mungeli district.

The reshuffle in the police administration came a day after Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai chaired the two-day conference of District Collectors and Superintendent of Police. During the conference, performance of districts on different parameters were reviewed.

Contrary to the expectation that a couple of IAS and IPS officers could face the axe, the state government fired only one officer. The senior official said a few officers were also under the scanner and could face action in near future as Mungeli deserved immediate action. He however did not reveal the reason.
