The staunch supporter of Jyotiraditya Scindia and newly inducted minister in the Madhya Pradesh cabinet, Imarti Devi had set the ball on roll over the issue of deputy chief minister in the state.

A video had gone viral in which she claimed that chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Scindia wish to make her deputy chief minister if she win the by-election with thumping margin. She is seeking fresh mandate from Dabra.

The woman and child development minister is among the 22 Congress MLAs whose open revolt led to the collapse of the Kamal Nath government earlier this year. The fresh volley of Imarti Devi though stirred the political cauldron, the BJP insiders are busy reading between the lines.

When Scindia supporters revolted and joined the BJP, there was no condition or hidden agreement. The BJP managers are now closely watching whether Scindia camp is eyeing deputy chief minister’s post and the statement of Imarti Devi can be part of the strategy.

In BJP ruled states, normally the deputy chief minister post does not exist. And even if Chouhan had expressed his intension to Imarti Devi as she claimed, the larger question remains whether the party high command has been taken into confidence.

The minister had been in the limelight for her controversial statements. Now she is in the BJP. While taking on Congress in Madhya Pradesh, the BJP had a bigger issue to keep its own house in order.
