The Israel Defence Force (IDF) on Sunday hinted expanding its attacks against Iranian-backed proxies in the region by hitting against the Houthis in Yemen even as it pounded Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.
The Israeli military on Sunday said: “The IAF struck military targets belonging to the Houthi terrorist regime in Yemen in response to their recent attacks against Israel. The targets included power plants and a seaport, which were used by the Houthis to transfer Iranian weapons to the region, in addition to military supplies and oil.”
Taking to the social media platform X, the IDF posted that over the past year, the Houthis have been operating under the direction and funding of Iran, and in cooperation with Iraqi militias, in order to attack the State of Israel, undermine regional stability, and disrupt global freedom of navigation. The IDF is determined to continue operating at any distance—near or far—against all threats to the citizens of the State of Israel.
It was reported earlier today that Mohammed Abdusalam, Houthis Spokesman, who recently threatened to join the war against Israel died in a mysterious helicopter crash. Abdusalam reportedly was on his way to Teheran to meet with the IRGC to plan the next moves against Israel.
The attacks in Lebanon were part of a major escalation of Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah over the past two weeks, after nearly a year of trading cross-border fire. This has increased the threat of an all-out regional war that could potentially draw in Iran, whose proxies include Hezbollah, the Houthis and Hamas in Gaza.
In recent weeks, the Houthis have launched missiles at targets in Israel, and Israel’s military said the strikes on Sunday in Yemen were a response.
