The Israeli military on Tuesday launched the pinpoint operations in Lebanon, urging the Lebanese civilians in southern part to not drive vehicles in areas south of the Litani River until further notice.

“There is intense fighting in southern Lebanon, in which Hezbollah operatives are using the civilian environment and you as a human shield to organize to carry out attacks,” IDF spokesman said on X. “For your safety, we ask you to avoid movement in vehicles from the north to the south of the Litani River,” he says.

“This warning is valid until further notice,” the spokesperson added.

The IDF’s 98th Division, an elite formation of paratrooper and commando units, led the overnight ground operation in Lebanon. The division’s Paratroopers and Commando brigades were joined by the 7th Armored Brigade, after preparing for the operation in recent weeks. The attack came hours after the security cabinet was said to approve plans for the newest phase of the war against the Lebanese terror group.

The 98th Division previously operated in the Gaza Strip for months amid the war against Hamas.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the IDF said that a “targeted and limited” incursion had begun several hours earlier, focused on Hezbollah targets and infrastructure in a number of Lebanese villages along the border that posed an immediate threat to Israeli towns on the other side of the Blue Line.

Ground troops operating inside southern Lebanon were being assisted by air and artillery forces, the military said, adding that the operation was based on plans drawn up by the IDF’s General Staff and Northern Command.
