Raipur, March 14
An Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officer was killed while a jawan was injured in an improvised explosive devise (IED) blast suspected to be detonated by Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district Monday morning.
The victim has been identified as Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Rajendra Singh. He was the resident of Tehri in Uttarakhand.
The incident took place when the ITBP jawans from the 53rd battalion were on a move to provide security cover to the workers engaged in a road construction project between Sonpur and Dondribeda. The rebels had planted a pressure bomb in a bid to inflict casualty on the security forces.
The bomb went off as the jawans reached the spot at around 8.30 am. Singh was martyred on the spot itself while Head Constable Bodro Mahesh sustained injuries. The injured jawan belongs to Amravati district in Maharashtra.
Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Sadanand Kumar said the injured jawan was airlifted to Raipur for better medical care. However, his condition is reported to be out of danger.
The security forces have launched a massive search operation in the area.
