The state assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases from September 18 while Haryana will go to the polls in a single phase on October 1.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced the schedule for the general election to the legislative assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, 2024. The polling in 90 assembly constituencies across Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases on September 18, 25 and October 1, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar said at a press conference. Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu were also present on the occasion.
Polling in Haryana will be held in single phase on October 1, Kumar said, adding that counting of votes for both the states would be held on October 4.
“Changed scenario in Jammu and Kashmir after parliamentary polls; layers of democracy are strengthened”, said CEC, adding that, “Electoral rolls for Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana to be finalised on August 20 and 27 respectively.”
Jammu and Kashmir has 87.09 lakh voters, including 42.6 lakh women, across 90 constituencies, Kumar said. The Commission will ensure secure, welcoming and peaceful polling. Over 11,800 Polling Stations will attract voters across rural and urban areas in Jammu and Kashmir that has average voters of 735 per polling station.
The term of state Assembly in Haryana is due to expire on November 3 and elections are scheduled for the 90 Assembly Constituencies — 73 general and 17 reserved for SC — in the state. According to commission, 2.01 crore electors are registered in the state with approximately 1.06 crore men and 95 lakh woman electors.
Over 4.52 lakh first-time voters (18-19 years), 2.55 lakh 85 plus senior citizens and 1.5 lakh Persons with Disabilities (PwD) voters are registered in the state. Over 10,000 voters are more than 100 years old.
