For the first time, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh Narayan Singh is facing whip of the JDU.

He had been elected to Rajya Sabha from Bihar assembly for the second term two years back.

Chief Whip of the JDU in Rajya Sabha, Anil Hegde on Thursday sent whips to all party members in the Upper House and Dileshwar Kamath to the members in Lok Sabha directing them to remain present in the Parliament till August 11 and vote in favour of the no-confidence motion moved by the Congress.

They have been asked to oppose the proposed Bill to empower the union government to transfer officers in Delhi Government. The Bill replaces an ordinance which had been opposed by the AAP which sought support of all parties in INDIA.

According to the JDU president, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, members of the two Houses in the Parliament met at the residence of Gopalganj MP, Alok Kumar Suman in New Delhi and decision to issue whip to the deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha was taken. If he goes against the whip, JDU may seek his disqualification on charges of anti-party activities. Harivansh had defied the dictates of  Nitish Kumar and attended the inauguration ceremony  of the new Parliament complex. None of the JDU MPs attended the programme, but Haribansh defied party instructions.

Later, Harivansh Narayan Singh visited Patna and met the Chief Minister at his official residence and clarified his stand.

Three lined whip said it should be treated as most important. If the whip is defied, parliamentary party may initiate proceedings for disqualification. Harivansh was a journalist at Ranchi before being elected to Rajya Sabha as JDU candidate.

Meanwhile, RJD and JDU on Thursday boycotted the dinner hosted by Bihar Governor, Rajendra Arlekar for the MPs from Bihar in Ashoka Hotel.

JDU has 16 members in Lok Sabha and nine in Rajya Sabha.
