Ranchi, August 31
Having come under sharp criticism for allegedly failing to provide better medical care to Ankita Kumari Singh, Jharkhand government today airlifted the 17-year-old girl from Jharkhand’s Chatra district, who sustained serious burn injuries in an acid attack.
The minor was attacked on August 5 and undergoing treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi. Another horrifying incident shocked the entire state on August 26 when Ankita Kumar Singh, another minor girl from Dumka, was burnt alive by her unrequited lover.
Ankita was also shifted to RIMS where she succumbed on Sunday. Her father claimed that she was not provided proper medical care and was not shifted to New Delhi for advanced medical care.
While the development was unfolding, Chief Minister Hemant Soren along with MLAs of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Congress were enjoying picnic in Khunti. Soren is on action mode to keep the MLAs from switching over as he felt BJP could sabotage once he resigned after been indicted in the office of profit case.
Following Ankita’s death and wide spread protest and resentment, the state government today swung into action. A medical board of the state government-run hospital referred the acid attack victim to AIIMS, New Delhi on Tuesday after examining various test reports, an official of the health facility said.
“The victim was shifted to Delhi via air ambulance. She requires specialised treatment,” he said. The move came after Chief Minister Hemant Soren directed officials concerned to extend all support to the victim and her family.
The government has already provided Rs one lakh to the victim’s family as assistance, a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said.
