Jharkhand Maoist couple surrenders in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur, September 10

A senior Maoist cadre from Jharkhand surrendered before the Chhattisgarh police in Bijapur district on Saturday.

The member of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), identified as Lalu Modium alias Samir, was accompanied by his wife who was also working for the red army. They were active in Jharkhand area.

Samir was the member of the regional committee of the CPI (Maoist).

The couple today surrendered before the Sukma police in Chhattisgarh in presence of Deputy Inspector General of Police Kamalochan Kashyap, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Anjaneya Vaishnav and senior officials of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

According to police officials, Samir was carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head. The couple had been active in the Maoist outfit for last 13 years and were involved in 12 major incidents.
