Ranchi, April 25
Jharkhand Tourism Minister and senior leader from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Sudivya Kumar Sonu sparked controversy by demanding the resignation of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, holding him responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 tourists on April 22 in Jammu and Kashmir.
The statement, widely shared on social media, reflects a troubling lack of understanding of India’s geography, accountability, and sensitivity, especially during national mourning. Interestingly, Sonu is Jharkhand’s Tourism Minister and is unaware of one of the most enchanting picturesque destinations in Kashmir.
Sonu is also part of the Congress alliance-led state government and has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh led by the ally. For his poor knowledge, the Minister has been brutally trolled. His remarks triggered widespread amusement and criticism with many saying how was it possible the Minister was not aware of where the attack took place and who Sukhu is?
Addressing media in Lohardaga, Sonu condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam. But what shocked all was when he said, “This is an extremely unfortunate incident. Himachal CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu must take responsibility and resign. He has failed to protect citizens.” Social media users were flooded with funny replies that even Google Maps might be second-guessing itself after Sonu’s comments.
Memes circulated wildly, with many tagging his brand of politics as “sensation over sense.”
