Jumbo COVID centre in Chhattisgarh’s steel city

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan today inaugurated a 114-bedded Jumbo COVID Care Facility in SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant through a virtual platform.

The COVID Care Facility is equipped with gaseous oxygen and has been ensured after laying a pipeline of 1.5 km from the Plant. This is the first phase of this project which aims to scale up to reach a total of 500 oxygenated beds in the future. The centre has a facility of double oxygen backup supply. Apart from gaseous oxygen as the main source, there is also provision of back-up of stored Liquid Medical Oxygen and oxygen cylinder manifold facility. This unit is equipped to take care of the mild to moderate covid infection cases. Besides medical facilities, the centre is also equipped with necessary internet and telecom services to facilitate IT requirements and remote consultancy.

Pradhan said that the Bhilai Jumbo COVID care realised the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had envisaged “Jahan Bimaar, Wahi Upchaar.” Lauding the role of Bhilai Steel Plant during COVID crises, the Minister said that the hospital had played an important role in treating patients during the second wave of the COVID-19 and also played an important role in supplying liquid medical oxygen in the country and meeting the surge in demand of LMO.

Responding to the demand of setting up 50-bedded ICU facilities at Bhilai by Chhattisgarh’s Health Minister T S Singh Deo, the Union Steel Minister assured the ICU equipped with Ventilators and ACMO machines would be set up in Bhilai.

SAIL Chairman Soma Mondal informed that around 88,0000 Tonne LMO had been supplied from SAIL so far, out of which around 32,000 T LMO had been supplied from SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant.

Minister of State for Steel Faggan Singh Kulaste highlighted the facilities at the JUMBO Covid Care Centre at Bhilai.
