Justice Rakesh Kumar, a former judge of Patna High Court and Andhra Pradesh High Court, who had authored judgement against Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy in December 2020, has been appointed member of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

 Government of India and Corporate Affairs ministry also notified appointment of Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain, a retired judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court and serving judge of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justice M Sathyanarain Murthy as judicial members of the tribunal.


Barun Mitra, retired secretary in department of justice and Naresh Salecha, member ( finance) in railway board have been appointed as technical members.

Tribunal is headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan, former judge of Supreme Court.

Members will have four years tenure or can serve upto 67, whichever is earlier. They will be paid Rs 2. 25 lakhs per month.

Justice Rakesh Kumar, who started his legal career in Patna High Court, was CBI counsel in the fodder scam and as judge of Patna High Court, he had even ordered CBI enquiry into the working of the registry of High Court. 

Talking to this correspondent  from Darjeeling, where he is holidaying with his family, Rakesh Kumar said he would join next week. In his last judgement in Andhra Pradesh High Court, he had put one year moratorium on new assignment for a retiring judge.
