Justice Surya Kant sworn in as 53rd Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India

Justice Surya Kant was today sworn in as the 53rd Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India.

At a ceremony held today at the Ganatantra Mandap in Rashtrapati Bhavan, Justice Surya Kant made and subscribed to the oath of office before the President.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, other Supreme Court judges and Chief Justices and judges from Bhutan, Kenya, Malaysia, Brazil, Mauritius, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Justice Surya Kant was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court of India on May 24, 2019.

His tenure at the Supreme Court lasts till February 9, 2027. Hence, he will serve as the Chief Justice of India for a relatively long tenure of over 14 months.
