Srinagar, June 28

The crucial meeting of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) that was scheduled for Tuesday had been postponed.

The Alliance is an amalgam of six mainstream political parties in Jammu and Kashmir seeking the restoration of the special status of the erstwhile state. The Tuesday meeting was crucial as the political parties were supposed to review the outcome of their talk with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister had held a meeting with 12 political parties of the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir on June 24. It was the first meeting of the Prime Minister with the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.

Soon after the meeting, Kashmir leaders Farooq Abdulla and Mehbooba Mufti said they had strongly demanded the restoration of statehood for Kashmir before state polls and special status for the state. It was learnt that the Alliance leaders would have discussed designing strategy to press their demands.

“PAGD meeting which was scheduled for tomorrow is postponed because of personal engagement of Mehbooba Mufti,” PAGD spokesperson M Y Tarigami said. Mehbooba is also the alliance’s Vice-Chairperson besides PDP.

Earlier, Tarigami said the meeting will be held at the alliance’s chairperson Farooq Abdullah’s residence in Gupkar area of the city at 11 am. “The meeting will discuss the PM’s all-party meet and the way forward for the alliance,” the spokesperson had said.
