Kochi, February 10

Patriotism does not see Poverty. And the 69-year-old Ammini in Kerala’s Thrissur district has proved it.

Living in deprivation, she celebrated the 73th Republic Day with patriotism and pomp with her grandchildren that touched everyone. The poor family celebrated the Republic Day in its own way but did not compromise with the honour and respect for the national flag.

Ammini, wife of Vijayan from Cheruchenam in Thrissur district of Kerala, turned a bamboo stick into a flag post and hoisted the national flag with full honour. She was assisted by her grandchildren Vismaya, Vivek, Vaiga, Sreelakshmi, Sreenand, Shiv Hari and Shivatmika.

The children study in Cherpu school. The School Principal A R Praveen Kumar has asked the students to unfurl the national flag at their houses on Republic Day while Teacher Sushma urged them to make a video and send it to her. Hence the patriotism of a woman living in a thatched house came to the fore.

Highly impressed with the act, Indian Navy felicitated 7 children along with parents and teachers from CNN Boys High School who were treated with a surprise motivational tour to Naval Base, Kochi as part of Amrit Mahotsav. The team visited INS Magar and INS Dronacharya. The Indian Navy said in a tweet that it decided to organise the trip after seeing the enthusiasm of the children celebrating the 73rd Republic Day at their home with their grandmother unfurling the national flag on 26 January 2022.
