Lalu sentenced to five years jail, Rs 60 lakh fine in fifth fodder case

Patna, February 21

RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav will have to remain in jail for five more years as the Special CBI judge, Sudhanshu Kumar Shashi at Ranchi awarded five years jail and imposed a fine of Rs 60 lakhs.


On February 15, he was found guilty of illegal withdrawal of Rs  139 crore from Doranda treasury in 1996.

Lalu is already facing jail terms in four other cases of fraudulent withdrawal from treasuries at Dumka, Deoghar and Chaibasa.


On February 25,the special CBI court at Patna is expected to give its verdict in another case of fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 39 crores from Banka treasury in BiharLalu heard the punishment in his paying ward room of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences through video conferencing.

With the series of jail terms exceeding three years,all hopes of Lalu to seek elections are now finished as he stands disqualified even as a voter now.
