RJD President Lalu Prasad on Thursday admitted he used to decide names of Congress candidates in the elections.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) at its headquarters Sadakat Ashram, Lalu disclosed BPCC President Akhilesh Prasad Singh could become a member of Rajya Sabha only because of his intervention.
Lalu claimed, “Akhilesh came to meet me in Birsa Munda central jail at Ranchi in March,2018 to seek his intervention in the selection of Congress candidate for biennial election to Rajya Sabha. I telephoned to Sonia Gandhi from jail and convinced her to field Akhilesh as Congress candidate and she agreed.”
Lalu was sentenced by special CBI court in fodder scam and lodged in Ranchi jail.
Programme was organised to celebrate the 136th birth anniversary of first chief minister of Bihar Krishna Sinha.
Lalu used to select the Congress candidates and their constituencies in the assembly elections
Former BPCC President Ramjatan Sinha recalled, “When R K Dhawan was AICC general secretary in charge of the state, Lalu simply handed over the list of Congress candidates and it was final.”
