The landfall process of Cyclone ‘Dana’ was completed Friday morning with zero casualty reported from the affected areas of Odisha.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said severe cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ crossed the north Odisha coast close to Habalikhati Nature Camp (Bhitarkanika) and Dhamara with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph from 0130 hrs IST to 0330 hrs IST of October 25. Later, it weakened into a cyclonic storm over north coastal Odisha with the completion of the landfall process.
The department said it was likely to move northwestwards across north Odisha and weaken gradually into a deep depression in next six hours.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Friday informed that the state had been successful in ensuring ‘zero casualty’ and meeting the emergency situation arising out of the severe cyclonic storm Dana.
After reviewing the situation in Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi said that the landfall was made between Bhitarkanika and Dhamra from midnight. District Collectors have been directed to conduct damage assessment at the earliest.
“Our target of ‘Zero Casualty’ is achieved due to timely action of the administration. The parts where there have been blockades, electricity poles and transformers damaged, teams have reached the spot and started the process of restoration. By 1 pm, all roads will be cleared and power restoration work will be completed by this evening,” said the Chief Minister.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will chair the review meeting to assess the damage caused due to the cyclone. The collectors of cyclone affected districts have been asked to submit the preliminary report on loss and damages incurred due to Cyclone Dana by evening. The complete report will be submitted within next seven days.
The cyclonic storm resulted in the uprooting of many trees and electric poles in the coastal areas of Kendrapara and Bhadrak districts. Restoration works by Fire Services personnel, NDRF, and ODRAF teams were underway.
