The last surviving woman founder of the Janasangh in Bihar and leader of JP movement, Bimla Prasad died here after a prolonged illness.
She was the mother of Union Minister for Law, Justice, IT and communication Ravishankar Prasad.
President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had expressed their condolences. Bimla Prasad was the widow of one of the founders of Janasangh in Bihar and former industries minister, Thakur Prasad.
Her cremation will take place on Saturday here, Ravishankar said.
Prasad, who is also the local MP, shared the news on his Twitter handle, recalling the departed soul as “a deeply pious lady and woman of great conviction” who had been, to him, a source of inspiration.
“My mother Bimla Prasad left for her heavenly abode last night. She was ailing for some time. My mother was a deeply pious lady and a woman of great conviction. She had been supporting the party right from the beginning. She actively participated in the JP movement of Bihar as a woman volunteer”, said the Union minister in a series of tweets, sharing his pictures with mother while she was alive.
Large number of BJP and JDU activists, including ministers visited Boring Road residence of the union minister and paid floral tributes. Several judges of Patna High Court and lawyers too called on Ravishankar. His father Thakur Prasad was also a lawyer at Patna High Court.
Chhattisgarh’s former minister and senior BJP legislator Ajay Chandrakar had also expressed grief over the sad demise of Bimla Prasad.
