Jagdalpur, December 20

A leopard spotted in the mining area of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC)’s Bailadila project in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district had created panic in the pocket.

Country’s largest iron-ore producer and exporter manages two mechanized mines under the Bailadila project. The production at Kirandul and Bacheli iron ore complexes contribute the lion share in the company’s total output.

Last night, the NMDC workers engaged in the mining spotted a leopard in the site. They even captured its movement in mobile and alerted the authorities. About a month ago, employees going to the duty also spotted a leopard crossing the road and disappearing in the adjoining forest.

Soon after getting information, the forest officials swung into action. According to forest officials, teams had been constituted and sent to the forests to spot the wildlife. They have also alerted the people staying in the vicinity.

The incident had created panic in the area though the forest officials said there was no need to fear as the teams were in action.

The local villagers said after a long time, wildlife could be seen in the Bailadila hills that had been endowed with world class steel making raw material.
