Continuous work is being done for environmental protection at the global level, Madhya Pradesh has set a record in the field of Solar Energy.

Madhya Pradesh is continuously moving forward to become an environmentally protected state as per the dreams of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Today, Madhya Pradesh is going to create new records in the field of solar energy under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav. In the year 2012, the state had a renewable energy capacity of about 500 MW. At present, the total capacity has increased to 7 thousand MW, which has increased about 14 times in the last 12 years. The share of renewable energy in the total energy capacity of the state has increased to 21 percent. The state government plans to increase the production capacity of renewable energy to 20 thousand MW by the year 2030. Today, world-class solar projects like Rewa and Omkareshwar present in the state are glorifying the determination and willpower of the state government in the country.

Madhya Pradesh has been a pioneer in innovation in the renewable energy sector. Rewa Solar Project is established in an area of 1590 hectares. It is one of the largest single side solar plants in the world. The implementation of this project has been recognized as an ideal. 76 percent of the energy produced from the project is being used by the Power Management Company. For the first time, the remaining 24 percent of the electricity produced is also being provided to a commercial institution like Delhi Metro outside the state through open access. This is preventing 15.7 lakh tons of carbon dioxide emission every year, which is equivalent to planting 2 crore 60 lakh trees. The project was included in the Government of India’s “A Book of Innovation: New Beginnings” in the year 2017. Rewa Solar Project has been included as a case study in Harvard University and Singapore Management University. Not only this, this project has also been honored with the World Bank President Award. It has also been selected for the Prime Minister’s Award for Innovation. This project is India’s first project to obtain solar energy at lower rates than traditional coal-based electricity. Doing remarkable work in the field of solar energy, a 1500 MW solar park is currently under construction in Agar-Shajapur-Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh. In this, 550 MW capacity of Agar district has been installed. 780 MW capacity of Shajapur and Neemuch district will be completed by October 2024. Apart from this, a 250 MW solar park has been prepared in Mandsaur. The energy produced from this is being purchased by the distribution companies of Madhya Pradesh.

The world’s largest floating solar project is being developed in Omkareshwar, which is situated on the bank of Maa Narmada, the life-giving river of the state. Its capacity is 600 MW. This will save valuable land. By covering the surface of water with panels, the loss of water due to evaporation can be reduced. No one will be displaced due to the establishment of the project. There will also be no need for underground water for cleaning the panels. In the first phase of the Omkareshwar project, 200 MW capacity has been installed. When the entire 600 MW capacity is installed at a total cost of Rs 3900 crore, it will reduce 12 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions and will make a significant contribution to the Government of India’s mission of achieving net zero carbon emissions by the year 2070. The said project will also help in water conservation by reducing water evaporation.

Apart from making the state self-reliant in renewable energy, we are also trying to supply renewable energy to those states and commercial institutions of the country, where its availability is less or there is a need. Through all these efforts being made in the renewable energy sector, our vision is to prepare the state as the “Heart of India” as well as the “Lungs of India”. The goal of the new Renewable Energy Policy-2022 by the state government is to develop a holistic environment in the state for renewable energy project development.

Farmers in the state are also being given the opportunity to become energy producers. Through Pradhan Mantri Kusum-A and Kusum-C, we are also doing the work of making the food provider an energy provider with full readiness. The work of installing solar rooftops on all government buildings umder PM Surya Ghar yojna in the state is targeted to be completed by the end of the year 2025. Under Morena Solar Park, in addition to the 440 MW × 4 Hr energy storage project, tender is being processed for the construction of 2000 MW × 6 Hr pump hydro energy storage project. Madhya Pradesh will work with full commitment to fulfill Prime Minister Shri Modi’s target of 500 GW renewable energy by the year 2030. Madhya Pradesh has to be made a role model in the field of solar energy not only in the country but in the whole world.
