Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), an arm of state-run Coal India Limited (CIL), had surpassed its previous record of coal despatch in the current fiscal.
Despite low demand due to COVID-19 induced pandemic, team MCL has outstripped its previous best of 143.01 million tonne (MT) coal despatch recorded in the financial year 2017, the company said in a tweet. It had registered 143.24 MT coal despatch as on March 25, 2021 (in the current fiscal), the company said.
MCL came into being in1992 with its headquarters at Sambalpur in Odisha. It has its coal mines that include seven open cast and three underground are spread across the state of Odisha.
CIL had recently approved 32 new coal mining projects with an estimated cost of Rs 47,000 crore. The combined incremental peak capacity of the projects had been pegged at 193 MT.
Of it, three projects had come to MCL’s kitty; adding up additional capacity of 47 MT per annum at an investment of Rs 14,057 crore.
