Guwahati, June 23
Even as Shiv Sena has asked its rebel legislators to return to Mumbai within 24 hours as the party is ready to quit Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), the lawmakers camping in Guwahti seems to be in no mood.
For, at least 70 rooms have been booked for seven days at Radisson Blu, a five-star hotel in Guwahati, for the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs led by dissident leader Eknath Shinde who reached Assam capital yesterday. Given the booking details, the legislators are going to enjoy luxurious stay for another 7 days in Guwahati even as Shiv Sena is desperate to bring them back to Mumbai.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday said the party is ready to quit the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra if the group of rebel legislators camping in Assam returns to Mumbai in 24 hours and discusses the issue with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
The security in and around the hotel located at the outskirts of Guwahati has been beefed up. The Assam Police have taken over the security from the hotel’s private guards. Even the media persons are not allowed inside the hotel. The Guwahati Police on Thursday detained several leaders of Trinamool Congress (TMC) for carrying out a protest outside Radisson Blu Hotel in the city.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma however downplayed the unfolding events and said that he welcomes all to visit Assam as the state needs revenue to deal with the devastating flood.
He also said, without elaborating, that he will be happy if Assam becomes an “international political epicentre”.
