In a major boost to the housing sector in Chhattisgarh, state-run housing board would expedite seven projects inducing an investment of Rs 300 crore.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday inaugurated the seven housing projects to be executed by Chhattisgarh Housing Board (CHB) under “Atal Vihar Yojana”. The aim is to realize the vision of ‘Housing for All’.

Under the projects, Shri Sai, EWS, LIG and MIG category houses will be built at seven different places in Bhurkoni-Raipur, Patharra-Rajim, Khartuli-Dhamtari, Sihad-Dhamtari, Pulgaon-Durg, Gurur-Balod and Kokdapara-Bijapur. The projects will cost Rs 300 crore.

In all, 1650 units including 1452 houses of EWS and LIG category and 200 houses of MIG category, will be built.

The Chief Minister said the BJP government would be completing a year in power and on the occasion, Atal Vihar Yojana had been started so that houses could be made available to the needy, especially the people of urban areas, at affordable rates.

“The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has been implemented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the objective of providing housing to every urban poor family. Taking inspiration from this, our state government has started ‘Atal Vihar Yojana’ to provide affordable and concrete houses in place of kutcha houses to the homeless or those living in various cities and development blocks of Chhattisgarh, under which the Housing Board has set a target of constructing and allocating 50,000 units,” Sai said.

For the Atal Vihar Yojana, the state government would provide land to the CHB at a price of one rupee per square foot. In this regard, instructions have been given to all the District Collectors of the state. The State Government is giving a grant of Rs. 80,000 to EWS beneficiaries and Rs 40,000 to LIG owners.

Chhattisgarh’s Finance, Housing and Environment Minister O P Choudhary said under Atal Vihar Yojana, quality houses would be constructed. Besides capital Raipur, projects would come up even in the remote places of Bijapur district. Soon the scheme will start in all the districts, Choudhary said.

The Minister said the scheme of free-hold was started in 2012. Giving priority to the demand of the people of the state in the scheme, the government has recently provided 100 per cent exemption in diversion fee and penalty in the buildings being free-hold in the cabinet meeting held on 26 November 2024. It will provide relief to about 80 thousand beneficiaries of the Housing Board.

Secretary to the Chief Minister, P Dayanand, Secretary of Housing and Environment Department, Ankit Anand, Secretary of Urban Administration and Development Department Basavaraju S, CHB Commissioner Kundan Kumar, Additional Commissioner Ajeet Singh Patel and senior officials of the Board were present.
