Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday said Maoism was like a cancer and it was necessary to strike at the root to end the menace.

“Maoists had stuck like leeches in some areas of Bastar and were exploiting the local people by intimidating them. These places were their safest hideouts. We decided to attack the Maoists by entering their den. With the indomitable courage of our security forces, we fought the Maoists and defeated them,” Sai said while addressing a function at the mini stadium in restive Sukma district.  The Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 137 development works worth Rs 205 crore in Sukma district.

Sai said in the last one year, security forces have killed more than 230 Maoists in various encounters. “I respectfully salute the holy land on which the holy feet of Lord Shri Ram touched,” he said, adding that Maoist violence had thrown Sukma district along with Bastar division into deadly violence. Due to this, the development of Sukma district was badly affected. In one year, the government has taken many important decisions for the development of Sukma district and has implemented them rapidly.

The Chief Minister said that in the series, today they had inaugurated and performed Bhoomi Pujan of 137 works worth Rs 205 crore here. These works include the inauguration of 82 works worth Rs 39 crore and Bhoomi Pujan of 55 works worth Rs 166 crore. The most important work among these works is the Bhoomi Pujan of the water supply scheme in Sukma Municipality at a cost of Rs 83 crore. Along with this, they also performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the construction of Keralapal to Pongabhejji road with an amount of Rs 14 crore. He said that to improve the sports infrastructure in Sukma, they are going to build a sports complex at a cost of Rs 11 crore.

The Chief Minister said that today on the land of Sukma, they all take a pledge again that they would destroy Maoism from its roots. “We will take revenge for the martyrdom of our brave soldiers,” the Chief Minister added.

Along with providing security to the people through the camps, the government was also working for development. For this, they started the Niyyad Nella Nar scheme for the development of villages falling within the radius of five km of the camp, through which all basic facilities are being made available in these rural areas.
