Maoist carrying reward of Rs 5 lakh gunned down in Chhattisgarh

Security personnel gunned down a hardcore Maoists in a fierce encounter that took place in restive Sukma district of Chhattisgarh today morning.

The rebel, identified as Rakesh Madkam, was carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head. He was member of Katekalyan area committee of outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) and was involved in attacks on security personnel.

The officials said the encounter took place when the jawans of District Reserve Group (DRG) were patrolling in the Bindpani forests Friday morning. The rebels camping in the area opened fire that was responded to by the jawans.

The rebels fled the spot after getting a befitting reply. During the search operation that followed, the security personnel discovered the body of Rakesh with the weapon on the spot.

Officials said the search operation in the area was still going on.

This is the second major breakthrough for the security personnel in the last three days. On Tuesday, jawans gunned down Budhram Markam in Jabarametta forest under the Katekalyan police station. He was also carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head.
