Jagdalpur, March 27
Six rebels including a deputy commander of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Wednesday.
The Bijapur Superintendent of Police, Jitendra Yadav encounter between the security forces and the Maoists took place on the banks of Talperu river in Chippurbhatti area under Basaguda police station limits. During the Holi celebrations, rebels have killed three villagers in the area. After getting information, a joint team was sent to the area.
The team comprised jawans from the 210, 205 Battalion of CRPF’s elite CoBRA, 229 battalion of CRPF and District Reserve Group (DRG) personnel from the Bijapur district police force. When the security personnel reached the spot, rebels laid an ambush and attacked. The jawans immediately took the position and gave a befitting response.
In a fierce gun-battle, security forces overpowered the Maoists, who slipped into the adjoining forests. Police officials said the Platoon No 10 of the outlawed Maoist group was involved in the operation.
A massive search operation was launched in the area that resulted in the discovery of six bodies. Besides, weapons were also recovered from the spot. The preliminary identification revealed one of the killed Maoists was a deputy commander. The name and other details could not be known as officials said the villagers would verify and identify the bodies.
Yadav along with CoBRA officials is camping in the area supervising the search operation.
